This week we are focusing on journaling! Whether it's long or short, journaling is an integral part of every scrapbook page. The KI Design Team has prepared several layouts focusing on journaling just for you. Leave us a comment with your best journaling tip and be entered to win a couple Taglines stickers!
I have mailed out all past winners' packages. If you didn't get one and are expecting one please email me!
I used the new Journal Lace Cardstock as well as a Travel Taglines sticker:
Danni Perez used a mixture of printed words with lots of KI lettering products:
Holly Child printed her journaling right onto notebook paper and then added letter stickers for the title:
Staci Etheridge cut up a Bordline Cardstock Sticker to use as journaling lines:
My tip is to start with who, where, when, and why - this is always a good start and then a story starts to flow from that.

I am doing a 52 weeks of 2008 journal. I have a word file onmy computer and at least once a week I update the week with the happenings. I also use my diary as a tip for things I may have forgotten about as it stores all my families appointments.

The best journaling tip I've ever been given was to use a transparency to write your journaling and see if it'll fit your journaling card/space.

Love using my Ki Planner or a portable notebook to write down memories. Jess

the single thing that helped me journal more is to do it on the back of the picture. i print, or get my prints, and then i write what i want to remember on the back so i'll have all the info when i actually scrap the photo which might be 2 days or 2 months down the road.

Lovin these DT layouts - that pic on the first one is awesome.
As for journalling - I find I turn to the computer heaps more lately, I can print out quite a bit and then trim it into nice and thin journalling strips which I cut to the length I need to fit the layout... plus there's always a font to suit any theme.

For journalling, I usually will start with the 5 Ws, and the sentiments/thought that the photo brings about. At times, when I got stuck, I will turn to music lyrics or quotes or even poem :)

When I journal, I always write as if I'm telling someone who is looking at the picture what is going on. I also love to include emotions that are happening with the picture. And I always use my own handwriting when I journal, just so my kids can see the way I write...THANKS!

I like to mention something that isn't obvious in the picture. If nothing comes to mind I don't stress about it, and just let the picture speak for itself. Not every layout needs a title or journaling!

Its fun to look back at some of my very first pages and see the progress of HANDWRITING! I used to print my journaling on the computer, and then scramble to find just the right space on my page to place the text. I've found that over the years my hand written journaling now MAKES the page and the most sense for my layouts! Heidi Swapp has a great book that can help you love your writing :) So, as they say - practice makes perfect!!!!! After I get the design sketch for my layout done, I jot down ideas for my journaling. Sometimes it is only a sentence or 2. Other times it is paragraphs or maybe even one word. Whatever it is - make the page YOU and tell YOUR story.

My tip for journaling---be honest, open and free. Use your own handwriting.

My best tip for journaling - be yourself. If you aren't a long winded writer, don't try to "fake" your journaling, just write the way you write. If you can't say anything quick - be sure to leave lots of room, because you will need it! Let your journaling truly be an expression of you - not only in the words, but also in the overall style. Be free to be you!

My 10-year-old daughter loves to scrapbook and has been doing so since she was 8. I encourage her to journal in her own handwriting so that she will have a keepsake of her handwriting and how it develops over the years.

Journaling happens to be my biggest problem. I feel I don't always tell enough about the photos. I try to always write out my journaling on scrap paper before I actually commit it to a layout!

I love to journal on my computer. I have nice handwriting, but I am always afraid I might mess up. My tip is to get your hands on tons of fonts for your computer....they make some that really look like handwriting. I love them.

My advice is practice, practice, and practice some more. When I'm not satisfied with my own handwriting, I look to my daughter's or I use fonts from the computer - I especially like the Creating Keepsakes fonts.

my tips include-
write it down when it happens. I use my blog for this purpose... I can go back and get the whole story as I wrote it at the time, not how I remember it probably happened.
write it out before you start anything else.
buy cute journaling stamps or spots to motivate you to do the journaling.
print it on the computer and cut it in strips :)

My best tip for journaling is to write down words or phrases, snipets of dialogue, or feelings right after the event like a birthday or holiday. I will type it up on the computer and save it so that if I don't get to the LO right away at least I captured my thoughts before they faded.

While I am not very good with the whole journaling process, I have found that list style journaling can be very helpful in taking away some of the anxiety that comes with creating perfect sentences and telling the story just right. when I get the simple words down it usually emits the right feeling.
--I can't wait to put some of these taglines to use in journaling, they look fabulous!!
