Challenge :: Scrapbook your hobby.

Today's challenge is to scrapbook a page about your hobby...one other than scrapbooking if you have one. I did my page about sewing...I have known how to sew since junior high home ec. class and have sewn a bit all my life but have recently been getting into it more and of course having fun shopping for the wonderful fabrics to do all of the projects I have in mind. :) I know alot of us don't have the time/room for a second hobby so if scrapbooking is 'it', show us a layout about that. Or you could do a page about your husband's hobby or a child's...any hobby will do! Please link your page back to us in the comments section so that we can see what everyone is busy getting creative with. :)

Challenge: Shake Up the Balance of Things

I consider myself a pretty symmetrical scrapper. Meaning, I like all my pictures to line-up, be the same size, etc…basically I like symmetry and balance on my pages. However, I came across a very striking layout of Jamie Waters’ in the KI Planner (Idea # 9) where all her embellishments seemed to be on one side of her layout, with just a few in the opposite corner. I couldn’t stop looking at it, and decided that I wanted to try that for myself. And, of course, the new Bloom collection has such a huge variety of embellishments, I couldn’t help but keep adding more! I absolutely love how the idea transferred so well to my own layout. So, my challenge for you this week is to get a little ‘imbalanced’ with your embellishments. Shake it up a bit…you won’t be disappointed.

Focus On Accents!

Accents!  There are so many fun ways to embellish your pages, so that's what we're going to Focus On today!

Instead of using her Lace Cardstock as a whole, Jamie Waters cut it up a bit.  Look what wonderful accents these butterflies make!  She backed them with patterned paper for even more pop!  She surrounded the large butterflies with small Softies accents.  It is a burst of beauty!

Another fun way to add an interesting accent to your layout is to make it yourself!  For this playful butterfly I simply cut the same shape out of two pieces of patterned paper, one smaller than the other.  Layer them together and add some details.

I went browsing through the KI Gallery to find some more ideas, here's what I found!

Tracy Miller also used the Bloom Flutter Frosty Lace Cardstock on her layout.  She kept it in tact for the top half of her layout and then let some of them 'flutter' away towards the bottom.  By adding those single butterflies she had an instant accent that tied her whole page together.

Another fun one I found is by Anne Heyen.  She was inspired by a layout by Danni Perez she said.  Look how fun this tree is!  I love how she used the Softies on the ends of the branches.  Big accents are so great!

Here's another great example of an outstanding accent by Jamie Waters.  She used her title as the main accent on this page....and went BIG!

Focus On the 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!!!  To celebrate the holiday we thought we'd share a few photos and a layout dedicated to our celebrations.

Amy Grendell has a great tip for capturing a festive photo this 4th.  Use a flag as a backdrop!

Andrew_flag

Now don't forget to dress up your animals accordingly!  They enjoy being part of the festivities....and look cute doing so!  This is my brother's dog, Pudge.

Now, don't forget to scrap these holiday photos!  Danni Perez had 4th of July pajamas for her kids and made a fun layout.  That's one great thing about the Bloom Collection, you can pick and choose your papers and embellishments to fit ANY theme!

Kim's Blogs: Use Your Stash and her personal Blog.

Favorite KI Product:  Lace Cardstock and Heartfelt Alphas

Favorite time to scrap: at night

A note from Kim:  I have been scrapping for 3 years and love creating memories for my family. I am on a dt at www.scrapbookplayground.com and recently started a blog with my friend Corey to Use our Stash.  I am honored to be chosen.

Kim sent in a layout with several innovative techniques.  Here is her layout:

And here are the cool things she did on this layout:

1.  She punched holes in some Epoxy Alphas and Flowers to make them look like buttons.

2.  She put some stickers on scrap paper, cut out around them and then added plastic packaging over them to make them shiney.  Brilliant!

3.  She used the top a of Color Lab tube as a stamp!
Picture_036

4.  She used the small felt pieces in Color Lab to cover the bottoms of the straight pins.

Wow!!!  Thank you so much Kim for sharing your talent with us!

Remember, if you'd like to be featured on the KI Blog, just send a favorite layout or tip to shannon.tidwell@kimemories.com.  For projects to be featured on the KI Blog they need to use 90% KI Product.  Good Luck and Thank You!

Challenge: Border Fun!

I just ADORE all the new embellishments in the Bloom Collection...and... if I could, I would use EVERY SINGLE thing on one page...because they're so darn fun!

But...that might really take away from the photo and the story...so, I opened up my KI 2008 Idea Planner and flipped the pages looking for some fun embellishment inspiration. I came across Shannon's layout (Idea 105) and said 'THAT'S IT!'  I can use lots and lots of these new goodies, without overpowering the page, by creating a border!  My challenge to you is simple...pull out your favorite KI embellishments, and create a border on your layout - mixing and matching all of your favorites!

Oh...(a little secret...) You can use MORE if you layer them!  Use softies as the centers of your chipboard or heartfelt flowers!

Share your fun border here!  I can't wait to see!
